“Sunog ang katawan, ulo hanggang paa”
We are now riding in a time machine, going back to 1996.
Stopping at Timog Avenue, Quezon City. Ozone Disco Club was broke out by fire shortly before midnight at 11:35 pm leaving atleast 162 people are dead.
Who would have thought a wild party will be a wildfire that night?
It was started by a flying sparks inside the disc jockey’s booth. Followed by a smoke which they thought was part of the party plan. 15 seconds of the smoke, the electrical systems of the disco shut down, followed by the flames.
Many bodies were discovered along the corridor leading to the only exit, piled up waist-high.
And as people tried pushing their way through the door, the harder it was to get out because the door could only be opened inwards. The more they tried to push the door and escape, the more it became a death trap. The doors were designed to be pulled in for exit.
It was hell, to be described.
“Mapapaso ang kaluluwa”
This song made me really think of Spoliarium by Eraserheads. They both have a tragic story behind and a creepy story telling. Making me think and imagine every happenings, getting me involve in the incident. Nightmare.
The lyrics are very illustrative. The music elements Unique utilized has captured the altogether ecstatic, rowdy, yet grave retelling of the 1996 Ozone Disco tragedy. Unique’s chilling delivery of this song and with that funky crisp beat works magic.
It was a bone-chilling experience.
“where have you been my disco? it was arsoned :)”
